Hi Conifers,

i found a discussion about a glaucous apparent Cupressus arizonica in Frankfurt which grows quickly, in habit reminding on Monterey C. The discussion is in German, but there are some good photos at first page, photos of other cypresses for comparison.

Could you please have a look to clear "Kiefernspezi" Andrè's cypress? Seltsame Zypresse

With thanks in advance

Erwin

Addition: cones up to 3cm diameter, partially with up to 9 scales, all other mentioned characters well visible at photos.

Hi Erwin - difficult for me to say, because of my poor understanding of German, I'm not sure which photos are of the tree in question, and which are comparison photos of other trees.

Yes, additional photos of other cypresses makes it difficult to separate.

Here the listing of the cypress in question: 1st page, photos 1-10, except no. 3, C. sempervirens f. horizontalis.

All other photos are just for comparison as: 1st page, no. 11-15 apparently C. × leylandii; 2nd page no. 16-18, "Arizona-Zypresse", quite likely C. glabra; no. 19-20 C. × notabilis; no. 21-27 "Arizona-Z.", C. glabra; no. 28-34, "larger Arizona" labelled as C. arizonica 'Conica', which agrees with arizonica s.str. in bark pattern and got distinct white resin dots at scales. I do suppose that nominative C. arizonica may have obvious white resin dots as well as having none?

However, the cypress in question is only shown at photos 1-3 and 5-10. The apparent rapid growth makes me wonder if in agreement with C. arizonica, possibly another species, or hybrid of C. macrocarpa?

Thanks for replying, dear Conifers!
