Séquoïa de Chine dans le arboretum Tervuren, Tervuren, Belgique

I've changed the planting date to 1948; this original introduction was very widely distributed so Tervuren would very likely have received some seed then.

Indeed that was an input mistake. I inserted several trees of the arboretum in a row and this one got mixed with the others. 1902 is the year of creation of the arboretum. Oh, by the way, Tervuren is in Belgium and not in the Netherlands! :-) Thanks for the comments.

Beautiful picture of a splendid tree species! A question arises after having looked at your age estimate. If this species was unknown outside of its native province in China until 1948 who planted this one in the Netherlands in 1902 ? I planted one in my yard 20 years ago and now it is 15--20 metres tall. They grow incredibly fast under the right conditions. Perhaps this one in Tervuren is not so old after all. Exceptional picture of a gorgeous tree. Congratulations.
