Sweet chestnut 'Hodrussky gastan' in Banska Hodrusa in Hodrusa-Hamre

There is one sweet chestnut (Castanea sativa) in Banska Hodrusa in Hodrusa-Hamre (district of Žarnovica).

This tree is called "Hodrussky gastan". In Slovak: "gastan jedly". The second oldest and tallest sweet chestnut tree in Slovakia. The protected tree no 449 (see http://stromy.enviroportal.sk/strom/hodrussky-gastan).

Its height is around 18.00 m (2003, measurement taken from book, in which the exact measurement method is not elaborated, Martin Miklanek). This tree was planted around the year 1705 ± 10, which makes it around 309 ± 10 years old (Martin Miklanek, Feb 19, 2012).
