Common ash near the boerderij De Essenbelt

This page contains specific information about common ash (Fraxinus excelsior) '5084', which can be found near the boerderij De Essenbelt in Dwarsgracht (municipality of Steenwijkerland).

In the marshlands of Northwestern Overijssel the village of Dwarsgracht (wich means Side Canal) is very picturesque and loved by tourits on bike. An icon in the village is the large ash tree at the waterside in front of an old little farmhouse. House and tree date probably from 1820. The roots of the tree have push up the ground and created a large mount: this has raisen to the name of the house: "De Essebelt" - The Ash-Mount".

20094.65 mErik Mijnhardt2 cm/year

The growth rate shown in the table shows the yearly average increase in girth since the last measurement. This value only gives an indication of the growth rate, since every measurement could be done at slightly different heights and during different periods of the year. Its height is exactly 22.60 m (Jun 4, 2011, laser with Sine method (e.g. Nikon Forestry 550 laser rangefinder), Jeroen Philippona). This tree was planted around the year 1820 ± 10, which makes it around 194 ± 10 years old (Jeroen Philippona, Dec 5, 2011).
